Growing Gourds

There are several types of gourds. They can be grown from seeds. The cost of the seeds in minimal, and the harvest is well worth the time it takes to grow them.

Instructions

HOW TO GROW:

  1. 140 - 200 square feet per plant.
  2. Loam or sandy soil
  3. Irrigation and light fertilization
  4. 120 days of warm weather
  5. 10 -14 days to germination in 70f soil

HOW TO CURE:

  1. Pick them in Fall or early Winter
  2. They can stay on vine or in barn or garage
  3. Keep them clear of rodents
  4. They will mold and become light in weight in a few months
  5. Curing is best in a well ventilated or outdoor place
HOW TO CLEAN:
  1. Scrub with brush or steel wool or other non abrasive methods
  2. Clean with soapy water and elbow grease, then rinse
  3. Place in well ventilated and dry area
  4. Let dry for 24 hours before decorating
